Description
Description
Convenient and cost-effective, our range of sterile stitch cutters is ideal for use in ‘outpatient clinics’, ‘emergency departments’, ‘hospital wards’, ‘general practices’ and ‘community nursing’.
The traditional carbon steel sterile standard stitch cutter with its rounded tip ensures that the skin is not damaged while the surgical edge cuts through the suture with minimal resistance.
Skin sutures are generally removed five to eight days after placement, with sutures on the neck or face generally removed slightly earlier.
Absorbable sutures lose sufficient strength during that period so that they can often be removed without cutting, but non-absorbable materials will need to be cut out.
- Clean the area thoroughly with a suitable solution if necessary. Hold the free end of the suture and then slide it under the stitch cutter so that it lies flat on the patient's skin.
- Carefully turn the stitch cutter upwards so that the cutting edge makes contact with the suture material as close as possible to where it enters the skin.
- Carefully pull the suture and ensure that it does not touch the wound, due to possible contamination and an increased risk of post-infection.
