Medical Taping is a great addition to the toolbox of professional therapists and can be used for a wide range of conditions. For it to work effectively, it is important to use a safe and reliable product, such as CureTape, and to apply the tape correctly. These tips will help you avoid complaints and problems.

  1. Anchors without stretch

Anchors are designed to help the tape adhere properly. For this reason, the tape should always be applied to the anchors without stretch. For better adhesion, round off the ends.

  2. Tape with the right amount of stretch

Always use the right amount of stretch. The tape can be stretched, but so can the skin. If the skin is stretched to its maximum and the tape is not stretched, convolutions will form as soon as the skin returns to a neutral position. Convolutions are wrinkles in the tape that create space in and under the skin, relieve pressure and improve the flow of tissue fluid.

  3. Make sure the skin is clean

Kinesiology tape adheres better if the surface to be taped is clean and free of oil. Make sure the skin is thoroughly clean before applying the tape; this will make it less likely to come loose.

  4. Do not tape over wounds

Kinesiology tape is not sterile, so it should not be applied over open wounds. Wait until a wound or scar has completely closed before applying tape. However, it is possible to tape around the wound to promote healing.

  5. Apply to bare skin

CureTape adheres to skin with light hair, but if the body is heavily covered in hair, it is advisable to trim it first. If there is too much hair, the tape will not adhere properly to the skin, and its full effect will not be achieved. It is also more comfortable when removing the tape if the skin is not too hairy.

  6. Avoid creases

It is important that the tape is applied smoothly and without creases. Blisters can form under any creases. It is also more comfortable when CureTape is applied smoothly.

  7. Consider contraindications

Not much is yet known about contraindications. However, it is still wise to take them into account so that taping does not cause any problems. Some contraindications include:

    • Acute injuries that cannot be properly or fully diagnosed.
    • Fever or non-specific symptoms.
    • Taping the pelvic region during the first 3 months of pregnancy.
    • Taping in the case of thrombosis.
  8. Use the right application

Use the right application for each condition. Incorrect taping can worsen a condition or may have no effect at all. If you do not achieve the desired result, remove the tape; you will often notice a difference within a single treatment.

  9. Use the right tape

Be careful with poor-quality tape. Many different brands of tape are now available. Although it may be tempting to choose the lowest price, this is not always the wisest choice. Always use tape with medical device class 1 documentation and TÜV certification, such as CureTape. Tape with these quality marks must meet the highest quality standards and be safe to use. In this article we explain how to identify quality tape.

  10. Do not let the tape get too hot

CureTape adheres better when the material is warm. After applying it, gently rub the tape to improve adhesion. However, be careful not to let it get too hot. It is also advisable not to dry the tape with a hairdryer after showering. Avoid tanning beds and do not stay in direct sunlight for too long.
